ASK YOURSELF. "Do I want God to hold me accountable for what I'm about to say?"
Good message in this statement. But let's go deeper - what comes out of our mouth, begins with a thought. So, we should also question, do I want to be held accountable, by God, for the thoughts I'm entertaining (ie. allowing to linger)?
Bad thoughts will come - sometimes out of nowhere. I've had thoughts that stopped me in my tracks and I've said to myself, "where did THAT come from?". š³
The real question is, are you going to allow those thoughts to control you, or will you take control of your thoughts?
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 tells us, "For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We cast down - destroy - arguments and every lofty thought - opinion - raised against the knowledge of God, and take EVERY (not just some) thought captive to obey Christ..."
If we capture the thought in our head and submit it to God, we don't have to live in danger of the wrong words flowing out of our mouth. Taking a thought captive stops the bad thought from taking root in our heart. Matthew 12:34 tells us, "Out of the mouth the abundance of the heart speaks". Whatever is in your heart, will come out of your mouth - at some point - especially when stress comes.
"The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil." (Psalm 15:28)
Just because you think it - doesnt mean you should speak it.
Instead, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer" (Psalm 19:14)
Such peace will follow!
