He Runs to Me

“For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help (succor) those who are being tempted” (Hebrews 2:18).

I got stuck on this verse this morning. I’ve read it so many times before, but for some reason my eyes kept going back to it. Over and over and over. I love when that happens. Because I know when that happens that God wants me to dig just a little deeper. I read using the New Living Translation, with the King James Version – side by side.

The King James Version uses the word “succor” in place of the word “help”. While it technically means the same thing, when you look at the definitions of “succor” verses “help”, I see a subtle difference that takes it to a deeper level.

“Help” means to make it easier for someone to do something by OFFERING one’s services or resources. This seems like a bland definition to me. Just an offer of assistance. “Call me if you need me!”, one might say with a wave in passing.

On the other hand, “succor” means literally to run to, or run to support, to help or relieve when in difficulty, and or distress; to assist and deliver from suffering.

When I read this verse using “succor”, I can hear Jesus say, “I’m here child – let me carry this for you!”, as He picks me up and carries me along!

Jesus Christ came to earth as a man, divine in nature, yet also bearing the same fleshly impulses I have. He felt everything that I feel; physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. He KNOWS what I’m going through on every level.

This verse promises me that He “RUNS TO ME” in the moments of temptation. Jesus “RUNS TO ME” in moments of suffering. He never leaves me alone to bear any of the weight of this life. He did this for me, to bear my sins, so that I don’t have to. He did this to heal me so that I can live FREE!

He did it for you too!

Holy Ghost chills folks!

God Bless,
