Why are you agreeing with THAT spirit?!

Updated: Nov 4, 2019

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Cor. 10:5

Scrolling through Facebook one day many years ago, I saw an interesting quote.  It seemed innocuous (ie. harmless) and just as I had done hundreds of times before - I 'LIKED" it.

Instantly I sensed the Holy Spirit speak to my spirit.

God:  "Why are you agreeing with THAT spirit?"

Me (stammering): "Wha??  What do you mean?  What spirit?  Lord, it's a good, positive, inspirational quote.   What could possibly be wrong with it?"

God (sighs and gently says): "Have you considered  the source?"

Honestly - no, I hadn't even batted at an eye as to where it originated. So I looked at the Facebook page where it came from and lo and behold, it was from a PAGAN website.  Ugh!!! A VERY anti-Christ religion.

The realization came that by "liking" these quotes or memes, was just like me saying to that spirit that was behind it - "Yes, I agree with YOU".

And the demonic world rejoiced - I had entered into agreement with a spirit that was NOT OF GOD!

Conviction came -  immediately, I UNLIKED it!

Satan is a counterfeit!   He is subtle.  He is sneaky. He is underhanded. He is EVIL!

At that time, God had been dealing with me about idols in my life.  Harmless looking things, beliefs, and people, that occupied more of my time and energy than I had been giving God.  He was cleaning house.

He was exposing how I opened myself up to things that - when the scales were removed from my eyes - were NOT of God.  I want to say I did this innocently - but actually I did it MINDLESSLY.  I had given little to NO THOUGHT to my actions. Just as when I "Liked" that post - I had given NO THOUGHT to where it came from.

This was another realization God brought me.  Idolotry sneaks in through "harmless" appearing thoughts or sayings or things.  Some sound or look Christian, but come from the biggest counterfeiter (Satan) - ever.   We adopt his lies into our psyche when we come into AGREEMENT with THAT spirit behind it.

As I said in another blog recently, the demonic world CRAVES being worshiped by humans. They want our energy - our attention!  They are masters of distraction! The more they dominate our thoughts with "harmless" sounding "quotes" or "events" (I'll drop that truth bomb and pray God's truth reveals the lies!), the less we turn our thoughts towards the ONLY TRUE GOD and the truth of His Word!

When we come into agreement with that thing or saying or "event" that appears "harmless" - but at the core, is demonic - we invite those spirits around us, that ultimately, wreak havoc in our lives.  Then we question "Why is this happening to me?!"

It's like a ripple effect. You can drop the smallest rock into a stream and the ripples start out small - but then they spread - and eventually, they consume the whole body of water around it. So the demonic world seeps into our life. It's just a little rock (a little lie - a little sin) - seems harmless enough though - right!?! They sink it in and soon, it begins to ripples out - eventually consuming our whole life.

The demonic world has NO POWER over a true, born-again Christian,  EXCEPT what power we give them.  We give them power by coming into agreement with them.

So, Why - Christian - are you agreeing with THAT spirit?

I pray that God opens your eyes to the truth.

"O Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the Lord opened the servant’s eyes and he saw."  (2 Kings 6:17)

God bless, Allison Pelphrey

"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."  (2 Cor. 10:3-5)

"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith."  (1 Pet. 5:8-9)

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”  (John 10:10

“…the reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.”  (1 John 3:8)
